Energy Savings Tips for the Winter Season

keeping warm
Colder temperatures in wintertime can mean higher electricity bills, but there’s no reason to fret. Keeping energy costs down is easier than you think.

We’ve compiled a few simple ideas that you can do today to start saving energy and money during winter months:

Set Your Schedule for the Season

Got EcoFactor? Go to my.ecofactor.com to check your thermostat settings and even your current monthly energy savings. Are the settings and schedules you created still working for you? Have you turned the switch from “cool” to “heat” mode? If you are planning a vacation away from home, make adjustments to your system so you can save while you are away. Remember – you can also log in and control your system from any Internet-connected computer or iPhone.

Close Off Your Chimney

When you aren’t using your fireplace, make sure the flue is closed tightly. If you live in a cold climate or rarely use your fireplace, you may want to consider buying a draft-stopping device that seals your chimney more completely.

Furnace Tune-Up

Schedule a check up for your furnace.  Just like your car, your furnace needs tunes ups to run smoothly. Something as small as a dirty furnace filter can make your HVAC system less efficient – and cost you cash.

Speaking of Your Furnace…

Soon EcoFactor will be offering a performance monitoring service for HVAC systems. This added benefit won’t involve changing anything in your home but it could save you even more money and energy by letting you know if something is amiss with your system early on. Look for news from us soon about this exciting new service.
